Many football fans just can't hate the charismatic Brazilian with the unique hairstyle, but here are five things you may or may have not known about David Luiz:
1) Luiz began his career at 14 when he joined Brazilian side, Victoria soccer club. From there he joined Benfica as teenager. He stayed in Portugal for five years before transferring to Chelsea in January 2011. The Blues paid €25 million for the Brazilian, with Nemanja Matic moving the other way as part of the deal. Three years later he joined PSG for a record fee of £50 million, the highest amount ever for a defender.
2) Luiz is Brazilian born, but also holds Portuguese citizenship - which he acquired during his time at Benfica. He was fairly unknown in Brazil as a 19-year-old, and Portugal wanted him to represent their national team, but Luiz opted to play for his native Brazil.
3) Luiz is a devout Christian and one of the few players who are vocal about their religious beliefs. He told media that his faith pushes him to strive to be better, and he believes that his God-given purpose is to play soccer.
4) Luiz revealed that his countryman, Kaka, is one of his role models because of his dedication to his faith, even on the soccer field. Kaka is an Evangelical Christian who openly prays on the field and credits God for the good things that happen in his life.
5) Luiz is often mocked for his strange haircut, but scientists suggest that his long hair is actually an advantage because it protects him from heat stress.
