Carlo Ancelotti Lost For Words After Shock Champions League Defeat

Despite Los Blancos finishing their match on Tuesday with 30 shots, of which 11 were on target, and 67% possession in what was a dominant performance, Ancelotti's men left the Santiago Bernabeu without a point.

The Spanish side went a goal down in the 25th minute before Karim Benzema equalised through a penalty-kick in the 65th minute, but, after it seemed they would eventually find the winner, they conceded through a thunderous half-volley from Sebastien Thill in the 89th minute.

Speaking after the game, Ancelotti admitted he could not analyse where it went wrong for the 13-time Champions League winners.

"Everything went well for them while everything we did turned out badly," he said, according to The National News.

"More than worried we are sad. We played with intensity and commitment but lost due to the finest details. The team played well, we could have been sharper in the area but it's difficult to explain what happened.

"The small details cost us the game and we should learn from that in the future. A corner kick, a stupid foul – they cost you and now we talk about a defeat we didn't deserve.

"We've missed out on three points and the group is wide open. We need to win our next game."

Real are now second in Group D with three points after recording one win and a loss in their first two matches in Europe this season, while Sheriff top the group at this stage with six points.
