With reports suggesting that Romelu Lukaku could return to Chelsea as soon as January, here is the latest regarding the Belgium international's future.
Xavi: I Would Understand If Barca Sacked Me Now
In the past off-season, Lukaku returned to Inter Milan on loan following his underwhelming return to Stamford Bridge last season.
The Blues made the 29-year-old the most expensive signing in their history when they paid Inter Milan €113 million (R2 billion) for his services ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, but after scoring only 15 goals in 44 matches and a controversial interview in the middle of the season, the west London outfit thought it would be best to part ways with their big-money signing.
The Nerazzurri have subsequently taken the forward off Chelsea's hands for the duration of the 2022/23 season, having agreed to have Lukaku on loan, but while he was regarded as one of the best strikers in Italy two seasons ago, he has so far been a shadow of the player who helped them win their first league title in a decade in the 2020/21 campaign.
Belgium's all-time top goalscorer has already missed 11 matches in all competitions so far this season, with the Inter hierarchy said to be astounded by the decline in the forward's physical condition.
Lukaku has been suffering from muscular issues, and while reports have suggested that the Serie A giants have also become disillusioned with the striker, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has seemingly set the record straight.
'Haaland Can Reach Ronaldo And Messi Heights'
According to the Italian journalist, reports that Inter want to cut Lukaku's loan stint short are wide of the mark, adding that both the Milanese club and the west Londoners could negotiate for a second loan stint once the season is over.
