With an underwhelming first season back with Chelsea having just concluded, here is the latest regarding the future of the Blues' record signing Romelu Lukaku.
Reports suggest that Lukaku will be sitting down to meet with the London club's hierarchy to discuss the possibility of a potential move back to Inter Milan.
The 29-year-old returned to Stamford Bridge for a club record fee of €113 million (R1.8 billion) in August 2021 eight years after his inaugural stint with the Blues, but after scoring 64 goals in 95 appearances for the Nerazzurri during his time in Italy, Lukaku has thus far been unable to replicate that vein of form back in London.
Despite being Chelsea's top goalscorer in all competitions this season, the 15 times Lukaku found the back of the net seem to not have appeased the club's fanbase.
His erratic performances on the pitch were then followed by an interview he had with Sky Italia, during which he expressed his desire to one day return to the San Siro as an Inter player.
Earlier this month, the player's agent revealed that since the interview, there has been tension between Lukaku and Thomas Tuchel.
According to The Times, Belgium's all-time top goalscorer could possibly get his wish of a return to Italy, with Lukaku set to meet with the club's newly established top brass.
Chelsea's takeover by Todd Boehly's consortium was confirmed earlier in the week, and with director Marina Granovskaia and chairman Bruce Buck's futures currently up in the air, Lukaku will wait until appointments are confirmed within the club's hierarchy before exploring the possibility of a meeting to discuss an exit.
The same report suggests that Inter are interested in bringing the striker back to the Italian capital, preferably on an initial loan due to his astronomical wages with the West London side.
