Italy's top division is set to commence soon, and it will be welcoming back some familiar faces as AC Milan look to retain their title. One of the players set to make their return to football in the southern European country is Romelu Lukaku.
After a season away in the Premier League with Chelsea, Belgium's all-time top goalscorer has returned to Inter Milan on loan to help the Nerazzurri recapture the Scudetto from their city rivals.
While Lukaku was one of the highest-paid players in England in the previous campaign, the 29-year-old has taken a significant pay cut to link up with Simeone Inzaghi for the 2022/23 season.
Lukaku has reportedly gone from a wage of €387 584 (R6.5 million) a week at Stamford Bridge to now receiving €197 308 (R3.3 million) with Inter, as per Capology.
A former teammate and friend of Lukaku's has also returned to the Italian top flight in recent weeks. After six years at Manchester United, Paul Pogba is now back with Juventus.
Players With The Most Trophies In Football History
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has once again called time on his United career and found his way back to the club where he established himself as one of the world's best midfielders. During his first stint at the Allianz Stadium, the 29-year-old won four league titles on top of five other trophies.
Despite his erratic time at Old Trafford, Pogba is still heralded in Italy and is among the highest-paid players in the league. He will reportedly be earning the same wages as Lukaku.
It will be some time before the world sees the Frenchman in a Juve shirt once again, though, as he recently suffered a knee injury that is expected to keep him out until the end of the year.
Once he returns, however, he will be playing alongside the highest-paid player in the league in Dusan Vlahovic. The Serbia international joined the Bianconeri at the beginning of 2022 for a reported €81.60 million (R1.3 billion).
So far, the 22-year-old has failed to live up to the lofty expectations placed upon him, but the Juve board will be hoping his wages of €249 231 (R4.2 million) a week will be enough incentive to replicate the form he once showed at previous club Fiorentina.
