Serie A
Result: Lazio 0-3 Inter Milan
Date: 29 October 2018
Venue: Stadio Olimpico
Mauro Icardi netted a brace to inspire Inter Milan to a 3-0 win over Lazio in Serie A on Monday evening.
Inter came into the match on the back of a 2-0 defeat to FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, although they did claim the bragging rights in the Milan derby last weekend. The visitors saw a lot of the ball of the ball in the opening stages of the encounter, although clear cut chances were hard to come by in the final third. Inter broke the deadlock on 28 minutes as Icardi pealed away from two defenders before turning home a cross from Vecino into the bottom corner. The lead was doubled shortly before the halftime break as Marcelo Brozovic was afforded time and space to drill the ball into the back of the net from the edge of the box. Lazio squandered a good chance to pull a goal back in the 56th minute, when Cataldi fired wide with a free-kick on the edge of the box. The third goal eventually arrived on 70 minutes, with Icardi completing his brace with a delightful finish in the box after being picked out by Borja Valero. Ciro Immobile went close to bagging a consolation in the final ten minutes, but the striker's effort was palmed away by Samir Handanovic. That proved to be the final chance of the encounter as Inter ran out comfortable winners on the night.
