Result: Juventus 1-0 Inter Milan
Date: 07 December 2018
Venue: Allianz Stadium Juventus moved 11 points clear at the top of Serie A with a 1-0 victory over rivals Inter Milan at the Allianz Stadium on Friday evening.
The hosts looked lively from the onset and they managed to carve out a couple chances for Paulo Dybala in the opening 15 minutes, although the Argentina failed to capitalise. Inter went agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock in the 30th minute as Roberto Gagliardi struck the upright with a scuffed effort from close range. Chances continue to fall as the half went on as Giorgio Chiellini rose well to meet a free-kick but his header was brilliantly turned away by Samir Handanovic in the 37th minute. The hosts threw numbers forward in search of an opening goal in the closing stages, but they were unable to carve out another opening before the break. Inter came out firing in the second half, but they were let down by their finishing, most notably Matteo Politano who squandered a chance in the box after a defensive mix-up. However, it was Juve who broke the deadlock in the 66th minute through Mario Mandzukic, who found the back of the net with a diving header off a cross from Joao Cancelo. Inter responded by introducing Senegal internationa Keita Balde for Roberto Gagliardini as they went in search of an equaliser in the final 20 minutes.
Inter sent more bodies forward in search of an equaliser in the closing stages of the second half, but the Juve defence remained resolute as the defending champions held on for the slender win.
