Serie A
Result: Juventus 3-0 Chievo
Date: 21 January 2019
Venue: Allianz Stadium
Cristiano Ronaldo endured a frustrating evening after missing a penalty in Juventus' 3-0 victory over Chievo in Serie A on Monday night. The home side broke the deadlock after 13 minutes as Douglas Costa embarked on a solo run before drilling the ball into the bottom corner from distance. Juve went close to doubling their lead on 29 minutes, with defender Daniele Rugani nodding inches wide of the upright following a set-piece.
It was one-way traffic as far as chances were concerned as Ronaldo, Alex Sandro and Federico Bernardeschi went close to doubling Juve's lead. However, the lead was eventually doubled on the stroke of halftime as Paulo Dybala did well play in Emre Can, who controlled well before firing past Stefano Sorrentino. Seven minutes to the second half, the hosts were awarded a penalty after a handball in the box. Ronaldo stepped up but saw his spot-kick saved by Sorrentino. Ronaldo had the opportunity to make amends for the saved penalty after 74 minutes but the Portuguese scuffed his effort wide of the goal from close range. The frustration continued for Ronaldo five minutes later when he somehow fired wide of the goal with only Sorrentino to beat after some good work by Dybala. The third goal eventually arrived with six minutes remaining as Bernardeschi sent a cross into the box, where Rugani was on hand to head home to round off a good win.
