Romelu Lukaku To Join Former Club's Rivals?

Romelu Lukaku To Join Former Club's Rivals?

Only a season into his return to Chelsea, Romelu Lukaku could reportedly make a shock exit to join one of his former teams' bitter rivals.

Report: Pogba Man Utd Exit Confirmed

At the beginning of the campaign, the Blues made Lukaku the most expensive signing in their history when they brought him in from Inter Milan for €113 million (R1.9 billion).

Since his return to Stamford Bridge, the Belgian has struggled to perform to the standards that earned him the record-breaking move back to London, having scored only 12 goals in 38 appearances for Chelsea to date in this campaign.

During a controversial interview with Sky Italia in December 2021, the 28-year-old expressed his unhappiness with the tactics manager Thomas Tuchel employed, as well as his desire to one day return to the city of Milan.

According to Goal, Belgium's all-time leading goalscorer could soon get his wish as AC Milan are reportedly interested in bringing the striker back to the San Siro in the upcoming transfer window.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Rossoneri are in the process of being sold to a Bahrain-based investment fund called Investcorp.

The company is said to have the backing of the United Arab Emirates sovereign fund, and many expect it to make a massive splash in the upcoming transfer window should the transaction be completed.

Should he make the move back to Italy, Lukaku would join a select club of elite forwards who have worn the jerseys of both AC and Inter, including Christian Vieri, Hernan Crespo, Ronaldo Nazario and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Rossoneri's striker position is one that could soon need reinforcing too, with Ibrahimovic having suffered a number of injury niggles of late, and with Olivier Giroud struggling to consistently find the back of the net, the club's chiefs will be looking for a longer-term solution to their attacking problem.

During his time at Inter, Lukaku scored a prolific 64 goals in 95 appearances for the Nerazzurri.
