According to reports, Juventus' highest earner is requesting to be let go by the record Scudetto champions.
Report: Pogba's Next Club Confirmed
Central defender Matthijs de Ligt has reportedly become disillusioned with his situation in Turin. Only three years after joining the record Serie A champions, it is said the Dutchman now wants to leave the Allianz Stadium.
This is according to Corriere dello Sport. The Italian newspaper is claiming the 22-year-old will not be returning to the negotiating table with the Bianconeri following a fractious meeting that took place with club officials.
With the player's current contract expiring in 2024, he and his representatives were initially keen to discuss terms for an extension, but were left unhappy with how the meeting transpired.
The 1995/96 UEFA Champions League winners reportedly wanted to include a €115 million (R1.9 billion) release clause in a new deal for the former Ajax Amsterdam man, but De Ligt and his lawyer felt this figure is too high, believing it should be closer to the €80 million mark (R1.3 billion).
The Netherlands international is also not pleased with the fact the club is trying to reduce his wages as far as bonuses are concerned.
De Ligt is currently the highest-paid player on Juve's payroll and would presumably like a pay raise, but that is seemingly not in the Bianconeri hierarchy's plans.
The defender is now understood to want to leave Turin, with many clubs keen to take De Ligt off Juve's hands.
Chelsea and Manchester United are said to be frontrunners for the former Eredivisie champion, with the latter recently employing his former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.
The Blues, meanwhile, have suffered a massive setback as far as their centre-back position is concerned, having lost Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid, while Andreas Christensen is reportedly set to join Barcelona.
