The ex-Chelsea and Manchester United boss was given his marching orders during his team's stalemate with the Serie A leaders following two separate incidents over the course of the clash.

Mourinho was first shown a yellow card 19 minutes into the match after reportedly aiming snide comments at the match officials, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 58-year-old was eventually sent to the stands for a second yellow card in the 81st minute after he was said to have sarcastically shown the referee, Davide Massa, a thumbs-up.

The two-time UEFA Champions League-winning manager watched the rest of the game from a distance, with Napoli's Luciano Spalletti given a straight card in the 97th minute for his own disagreement with those officiating.

Speaking after the match, Mourinho told DAZN: "I wasn't happy about the referee's decision, but I didn't say a word.

"Nobody is going home happy, both coaches were sent off, but I think the referee was balanced."
