Italian Serie A Report: Lazio 1-2 AS Roma 25 May 2015

AS Roma secured second spot in the Serie A after beating cross-town rivals Lazio 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico on Monday evening.

Lazio nearly broke the deadlock as early as the seventh minute when Miroslav Klose met Antonio Candreva's cross, but the striker's thumping header sailed inches wide of the upright.

Morgan De Sanctis came to Roma's rescue in the 10th minute, as the shot-stopper got down well to keep out Biglia's effort from close range.

The visitors never troubled Lazio in the final third and were often left frustrated by the referee's calls and the fact that their rivals were in control for most of the first half.

The home came close to taking the lead shortly after the halftime break through Dusan Basta, but the midfielder's stinging effort sailed inches wide of the upright.

Roma then went close in the 69th minute, as Daniele de Rossi picked delightfully picked out Florenzi, who had has effort deflect just wide of the mark.

The visitors eventually broke the deadlock on the 73rd minute, as Nainggolan played in the on-rushing Juan Manuel Iturbe, who slotted into the bottom corner with a first time finish.

However, Lazio hit back in the 82nd minute as Klose picked out Filip Djordjevic with a knockdown and the midfielder rifled home past a helpless De Sanctis.

Rudi Garcia's men managed to seal the win three minutes later when defender, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, rose highest to head home Miralem Pjanic's free-kick.

Lazio's Champions League hopes are now in doubt and if they lose to Napoli on Sunday, they will relinquish third spot to Rafael Benitez's men.
