Gonzalo Higuain Breaks Silence On Red Card Meltdown

Angry Gonzalo Higuain responds to red card

Following his disbelief at being sent off in AC Milan's loss to Juventus on Sunday, Argentine forward Gonzalo Higuain has addressed his behaviour after receiving the red card.

After remonstrating with the referee over a yellow card in the 83rd minute of Milan's 2-0 Serie A defeat to Juve, the 30-year-old was shown a second yellow card followed by a red card.

Higuain lost his cool after being giving his marching orders, but, after the match, insisted he is simply human.

"I know that we are an example for all children, for those who play football, for the people watching, but we are not robots, and we carry things within us," he said, according to Concise News.

"We are human, we feel emotions, the game was not going the right way and it was one of those days.

"I think sometimes the referees should understand the situation."

The striker also wrote an apology on Instagram, saying: "I want to apologise to everyone for my behaviour on the pitch, my teammates, club, the fans that last night showed me even more affection. I'll take ownership of my responsibilities and will do my best to avoid it happening again."
