Coppa Italia Report: AC Milan v Inter Milan 01 March 2022

Coppa Italia Report: AC Milan v Inter Milan 01 March 2022

AC Milan and Inter Milan could not be separated in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final on Tuesday night.

Result: AC Milan 0-0 Inter Milan

Date: 01 March 2022

Venue: San Siro

Lautaro Martinez and Milan Skriniar came back into the Inter side in place of Danilo D'Ambrosio and Alexis Sanchez. Meanwhile, Algeria international Ismael Bennacer replaced Sandro Tonali for Milan.

Stefano Pioli's charges looked lively in the early stages, with Alexis Saelemaekers and Theo Hernandez going close in the opening 15 minutes.

Inter had the first opening after 21 minutes when Ivan Perisic did well to pick out Edin Dzeko in the box, but Alessio Romagnoli was on hand to deny the striker.

The game was played a decent tempo for the most of the half, but the Italian champions were nearly gifted the goal on the stroke of halftime as Fikayo Tomori's error slipped in Perisic, who saw his shot blocked by Alessandro Florenzi.

Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was called into action two minutes into the second half to keep out a powerful long-range strike Rafael Leao.

With the sides struggling to get the breakthrough, changes were made after the hour mark as Inter threw on Arturo Vidal and Sanchez while Ante Rebic, Junior Messias and Brahim Diaz came on for Milan.

Rebic nearly made the perfect impact when he broke down the left before sending a ball into the box for Diaz, who was unable to connect with the volley on 71 minutes.

Unfortunately for the fans in attendance, both sides struggled to fashion any opening in the latter stages of the second half and will now have it all to play for in the second leg.
