Zinedine Zidane Takes Blame For Real Madrid's Shock Defeat

Zinedine Zidane Takes Blame For Real Madrid's Shock Defeat

After watching his side surrender their lead in the LaLiga standings to FC Barcelona on Sunday night, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has taken the blame for the club's shock loss to mid-table outfit Real Betis, a result he described as the "worst of the season".

Los Blancos failed to reclaim top spot in LaLiga after suffering 2-1 defeat to Betis on Sunday, where Sidnei and former Barca forward Cristian Tello scored either side of Karim Benzema's penalty strike to earn the Seville-based side a surprise victory.

After the match, Zidane lamented his side's performance, but stressed that the blame rested on him as the manager.

"I think we played a bad game, from beginning to end," the Frenchman said, according to ESPN

"It's a shame because we had the chance to play a good game and we didn't. We didn't play at all. I don't have an explanation.

"I'm the coach and when things don't go well, or we don't do what we'd talked about, I'm responsible.

"It was our worst game of the season. Defensively, offensively, our energy, we didn't have enough mobility to cause the opponent problems. We conceded two goals, but what annoys me most is what we did with the ball."

Zidane's Real are now two points behind rivals Barca in the LaLiga standings, with 11 matches left to be played for the campaign.
