There appeared to be mutual interest between Real Madrid and Christian Eriksen before he signed for Inter Milan, and it has now been reported as to why Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane rejected the chance to sign him, even at a cut-price.
The 27-year-old Denmark playmaker left Tottenham Hotspur for the Nerazzurri on Tuesday in a deal that is believed to be worth around £17 million (R321 million).
Eriksen had just six months remaining on his contract in England, thus he was available for far less than his actual market value, which Transfermarkt currently has listed at £76 million (R1.4 billion).
Prior to the midfielder's links with Antonio Conte's Inter, he seemed intent on joining Los Blancos, who were also reportedly interested in his signature.
AS, however, reports that Zidane eventually decided against the transfer as the French manager felt his team already had an array of talented midfielders, especially in the in central positions where Eriksen would play.
The 47-year-old boss would rather continue to work with the talented group of players he currently has, which also means handing first-team opportunities to the club's emerging talents.
The Spanish giants also recently confirmed the arrival of Brazilian attacking midfielder Reinier from Flamengo, and while he is expected to join up with Real's Castilla side, the 18-year-old could very well play himself into the senior side.
