Reports: Surprise Premier League Club Ready To Spend €80m On Real Madrid Outcast

A surprise Premier League club is reportedly ready to spend a whopping €80 million (R1.45 billion) on a Real Madrid star who is one of the Spanish side's most expensive signings ever, but has struggled for game time of late.

James Rodriguez has fallen down the pecking order under Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane, and last started a LaLiga game in October 2019.

He has had some injury issues during the campaign, but while he returned to fitness in January, he has only been given game time in the Copa del Rey.

According to The Sun, Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in the player's services, and have reached out to his agent Jorge Mendes to enquire about his availability and price tag.

It is claimed by the abovementioned publication that Wolves would be prepared to offload striker Raul Jimenez to make the deal happen, which seems questionable given the Mexico star's goal returns since he joined the English side.

Another factor in the potential transfer is whether or not Wolves qualify for next season's Champions League.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men are currently sixth in the Premier League, five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, but even fifth position could see them qualify for next season's edition of the UCL of Manchester City remain suspended from European club competitions in the next two campaigns.

Wolves are also still in contention for this season's UEFA Europa League title, and could qualify for the 2020/21 UCL by winning the tournament.
