As the transfer window tilts into full swing, one of Real Madrid's most important players could be set to leave after being linked with a shock move to the United States.
On Monday, the Athletic reported that 2018 Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modric had emerged as a target for MLS side DC United.
The US-based club's pursuit of the Croatia midfielder is said to have intensified following Wayne Rooney's departure to Derby County, with the club now looking to sign a new marquee player.
Spanish publication AS have since confirmed United's interest in the 34-year-old but report that the deal is unfeasible at present due to Modric's salary demands.
It is reported further that the former Tottenham Hotspur star prefers to end his career with Los Blancos, where his current contract will expire upon the conclusion of the 2020/21 campaign.
