Official: Real Madrid Announce First January Departure

Real Madrid have been quiet in the January transfer market thus far, but Zinedine Zidane's Los Blancos have now announced their first departure of the window.

Real spent more than €300 million (R4.8 billion) on signings ahead of the 2019/20 campaign, while players such as Mateo Kovacic and Marcos Llorente left the club.

Until today, the recently crowned Spanish Super Cup winners had done no January business, but they have now confirmed that young goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has joined Real Oviedo on loan.

The 20-year-old had only just returned from his loan stint with LaLiga side Real Valladolid, which Real cut short after he failed to gain much game time.

He made only two appearances for Valladolid in the first half of the campaign, and will hope to feature regularly for LaLiga2 side Oviedo.

Lunin made headlines with his national team ahead of this campaign when he was crowned a FIFA U20 World Cup winner with Ukraine. His performances between the sticks impressed so much that he won the Golden Glove award for the best goalkeeper at the tournament.

Real want their young starlet to feature more regularly so that he can continue his development and eventually rival Thibaut Courtois for the No. 1 spot.
