Official: Former Real Madrid & Manchester United Star Completes Move To The US

A former Manchester United and Real Madrid star has traded Europe for the US, where he will become one of the league's highest-earning players of all time.

On Tuesday evening, Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy confirmed the signing of former United and Los Blancos striker Javier Hernandez from LaLiga side Sevilla. 

According to Sports Illustrated, the US club paid $9.4 million (R136 million) to acquire Hernandez's services, and tied him down to a three-year contract, from which he will an annual salary of about $6 million (R86 million), plus incentives, making him the highest-paid player in the league.

"Javier has consistently scored goals in top leagues throughout the world and has been his country's most successful player over the last decade," Galaxy general manager Dennis te Kloese told the club's official website.

"He is a competitor who has proven success at the highest level and has scored the most goals ever of one of the best teams in CONCACAF. We think he can be one of Major League Soccer's best attacking threats and help our team in multiple ways.

"We are excited to bring Javier to Los Angeles and we look forward to him representing this city and our fans as a member of the LA Galaxy."

"Chicharito", as Hernandez is affectionately known, spent five years at Old Trafford between 2010 and 2015, during which he spent a season on loan at Real. The 31-year-old has also previously turned out for the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and West Ham United.
