Man Utd 'Ready' To Trigger Striker's Release Clause

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to trigger the release clause of a new star striker.

The Red Devils are looking to alleviate the pressure on Rasmus Hojlund's shoulders heading into the new season.

The Danish attacker was brought in for a massive €73.9 million (R1.4 billion) fee last season, but with Antony Martial enduring another injury-plagued campaign at Old Trafford, a lot of the attacking burden was placed on the young Scandinavian.

Now, with the Frenchman leaving the club, the record Premier League winners are looking to acquire another striker to provide Hojlund with competition, and it is believed the Mancunians have identified Netherlands international Joshua Zirkzee as that player.

The 23-year-old is coming off an impressive season with Bologna in Serie A, having helped the Italian side qualify for the UEFA Champions League courtesy of his 11 goals and five assists in the league.

The Schiedam native has been linked with a number of top European sides in this transfer window, but it now appears that the English outfit have pulled ahead in the race for his signature.

According to Sky Sports News, United are now in talks with Zirkzee's representatives, and are prepared to trigger his mooted £34 million (R781 million) release clause in his deal with Bologna.
