Karim Benzema has arguably become the main man at Real Madrid following Cristiano Ronaldo's departure, and the French forward is going toe to toe with FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi this year.

Benzema, who became the UEFA Champions League's most-capped Frenchman ever last week, returned to LaLiga action on Sunday and scored the winning goal for Los Blancos in their 1-0 victory over Sevilla.
In doing so, and as reported by Marca, the former France international reached the milestone of 20 goals across all competitions for Real in this calendar year, the same number Messi has scored for Barcelona in 2019.

Sergio Aguero of Manchester City has also scored 20 goals this year, while Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski and Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe are the only players who have scored more times than the trio, with the pair netting 21 goals each.
Benzema also continued his fine form against Sevilla, with the former Olympique Lyon striker now having recorded nine goals and 10 assists against the club from Seville, his best return against any side.

The 31-year-old joined Real from Lyon in 2009, and has scored 227 goals in 471 appearances across all competitions for the LaLiga giants since.
