Ex-Real Madrid Star Denies Ordering Attempted Hit On Former Teammate

Ex-Real Madrid Star Denies Ordering Attempted Hit On Former Teammate

After a former Premier League and LaLiga player was shot at outside his home in Greece recently, an ex-teammate of his, who once represented Real Madrid, has denied being involved in arranging the attempted hit.

Earlier this month, former Sheffield Wednesday, Real Sociedad and Juventus striker Darko Kovacevic striker was shot at outside his house, with the Daily Mirror reporting that he was able to avoid being struck by any bullets.

The Serb was, however, taken to hospital after suffering knee and wrist injuries as he attempted to get out of the line of fire.

While the motive for the incident has remained unclear, a former Los Blancos defender, Raul Bravo, had been singled out by Serbian press as a suspect.

The Spaniard once played alongside Kovacevic for Olympiacos in Greece, and was arrested last year as part of an investigation into match-fixing and corruption in Spanish football, with Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport reporting there might have been a connection.

In a recent interview, though, Bravo denied all allegations of the story being true.

"A magazine in Serbia reported it and I was stunned that it said I ordered the murder of (Darko) Kovacevic," he told Radio Marca's A Diario show.

"The only thing that matters (to them) is selling (magazines), and saying I wanted to kill Darko sells more. It's a crazy story, it's nonsense."

Bravo then insisted his relationship with his former colleague is good, before suggesting he has already been in contact with him.

"It (the report) is something that has neither legs nor a head. It is a complete invention, madness," he added.

"He hasn't gotten into any trouble and he doesn't know why this has happened. He has earned a lot of money from football... I've told him to stay calm."

Bravo made 132 appearances for Real between 2002 and 2007.
