Venue: Santiago Bernabeu
Real Madrid were dumped out of the Copa del Rey after suffering a 4-3 loss at the hands of Real Sociedad, ending the side's 21-game unbeaten run all competitions.
Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane retained only four players from the narrow win over Atletico Madrid in Sergio Ramos, Toni Kroos, Federico Valverde and Karim Benzema, while Gareth Bale remained out through injury.
After a lively start from both sides, Sociedad drew first blood in the 22nd minute thanks to a clinical finish by Martin Odegaard - on loan from Real - after Los Blancos goalkeeper Alphonse Areola parried Alexander Isak's initial strike into his path.
Zidane's charges increaed the intensity of their attacks after that and came close twice in quick succession with seven minutes remaining of the first stanza, as Vinicius Junior and Valverde were denied the equaliser by Sociedad shot-stopper Alex Remiro.
The visitors were a threat on counter-attacks and almost doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time after Isak broke away clear but he guided his shot wide under pressure after a quick recovery and presence of Ramos put him off.
Sociedad had a flying start in the second stanza as Isak found the net four minutes from the break with a composed finish past Areola after a through ball from Odegaard but the goal was chalked off for an offside by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
However, Isak eventually gave Imanol Alguacil's troops a two-goal lead nine minutes inside the second stanza with an acrobatic volley that sailed into the bottom corner.
The visitors then added a third goal two minutes thereafter as Isak grabbed his brace with a clinical strike into the top corner after pouncing onto a deflected cross into the box.
Los Blancos pulled a goal back just before the hour-mark after Marcelo thumped in a strike at the near post after he was teed up by Brahim Diaz.
Sociedad, however, restored their three-goal advantage with 21 minutes left after Mikel Merino fired home a first-time strike from Isak's cut-back past Areola, who could only help the powerful shot into the back of the net with an attempted save.
Madrid thought they had pulled the second goal with ten minutes left after Vinicius Junior's header was parried to the back of the net by Remiro but the goal was disallowed after a lengthy VAR review.
The hosts eventually got the second goal back immediately after that, as Vinicius threaded a pass to Rodrygo, who had the easy task of tapping into a gaping net after Sociedad were caught disorganised at the back.
Madrid were crowding the Sociedad box in the closing minutes, desperate to rescue the game and Nacho made it 4-3 in second-half stoppage time with header from Benzema's cross.
Sociedad had to finish the dying minutes of the match with 10 men after Andoni Gorosabel got a second booking in quick succession and was sent off, but it did not matter as the visitors held on for a famous win.
