Ronaldo joined Real Madrid for £80 million in 2009 and has since scored 285 goals in 274 games.
The year 2014 was one of the best in his career. Not only did he score a personal high of 61 goals since January, he also won four trophies with Real Madrid (after winning only three trophies in the three seasons before).
Ronaldo was instrumental in Los Blancos' Champions League triumph, scoring a record-breaking 17 goals – a new competition record – on Real's way to glory.
In addition, he helped his side to win the Copa del Rey trophy, the European Super Cup as well as the FIFA Club World Cup.
The only 'dark spot' on the 29-year-old's year was the World Cup where, with recurring injuries, Ronaldo couldn't prevent Portugal from failing at the group stages.

His counterparts, Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer, both reached the final and while Neuer took the title home, Messi was named Player of the Tournament.
However, the Argentine failed to win any silverware at club level in 2014 and Neuer's World Cup heroics were based on a superb team performance.
Hence, there should only be one winner of this year's FIFA Ballon d'Or – Cristiano Ronaldo, who arguably played the best football of his career.
