What's Holding Up Cristiano Ronaldo's Juventus Transfer?

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly already agreed personal terms on a whopping €30 million contract with Juventus, while Real Madrid are understood to be prepared to let him go, but only on one condition.

The Portuguese is currently on holiday and reports suggested his €100 million (R1.6 billion) deal could have been completed this past weekend already.

However, Ronaldo is still a Real Madrid player, even though he feels there is no return to Santiago Bernabeu this time around because of broken promises by club president Florentino Perez.

So what is holding up his move?

According to Spanish publication AS, Perez does not want to be remembered as the president, who sold the club's all-time record scorer and expects Ronaldo to come out and say that he wants to leave, similar to Xabi Alonso in 2014.

The midfielder had just signed a two-year extension a few months before his move to Bayern Munich but was allowed to leave for just €9 million (R142 million) after accepting Real's one condition.

"The club didn't want me to leave, but in the end, they accepted my transfer request. My decision to leave isn't one which they share, but they understand," he said at a farewell conference.

And Real want Ronaldo to do something similar, they want him to appear before the media to make it clear that he is the one, who wants to leave, and he must also thank president Perez for his support throughout the years.

It remains to be seen whether the 33-year-old will indeed accept this condition and make his wish to leave public after the club unsettled him by not giving him the higher salary he wanted and was promised by Perez after the 2017 UEFA Champions League final.
