According to L'Equipe, Mbappe decided to have a one-on-one conversation with the Atletico Madrid attacker, who was believed to be hurt at being overlooked for the captain role in favour of the 24-year-old.
The two attackers were the main contenders to succeed Hugo Lloris after the shot-stopper decided to call time on his international career after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Head coach Didier Deschamps decided that he would meet with the duo separately following France's first squad dinner after convening on Monday to explain his decision.
After hearing that he had lost out to Mbappe, Griezmann was sad and even considered retiring from international football as a result, but the same report suggests that PSG's talisman sought out the ex-Real Sociedad and Barcelona man to tell him he understood his disappointment but that he was counting on him to help lead the two-time world champions.
