The goal saw the Herons pull one back after initially being 2-0 down away at Nashville, and set up an entertaining last 30 minutes at Geodis Park.
Luis Suarez, who joined Inter Miami at the start of the campaign, scored the equaliser in stoppage time, with a header from inside the box to secure a second away goal in their round of 16 clash.
The two teams will meet again in the reverse fixture in Florida next Thursday.
