The 33-year-old scored his 10th goal since joining Juventus against SPAL on the weekend, becoming the quickest in the club's history to achieve this milestone.

In doing so, Ronaldo also matched Messi's tally for the calendar year, with both of them now sitting on 44 goals in 2018.

The Portugal talisman has scored 10 times for Juventus, 28 times for Real Madrid and six times for Portugal, while Messi has netted 40 times for FC Barcelona plus another four times at international level.

The duo's lead among Europe's top goalscorers this calendar year is even more impressive when you consider that neither of them has played for their country since the 2018 FIFA World Cup ended in July.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski completes the podium with 39 strikes in 2018 so far. He is followed by Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, who has scored 37 goals for club and country in this calendar year.

Barca forward Luis Suarez and Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane have each scored just one less strike than Salah, while Antoine Griezmann has struck 35 goals for Atletico Madrid and France this year.
