Reports suggest that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has a lucrative offer from Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal ahead of the expiration of his current deal at Paris Saint-Germain.

While it is unclear if Messi will end up taking his career to the Middle East, Al Hilal's interest is believed to be concrete, with reports stating the club is willing to make him the best-paid player in the game's history.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Saudi side has proposed terms that would see him earn a staggering $439 million (R8 billion) a season, including add-ons and bonuses.

Should the Argentine choose to accept these terms, he would climb from third place in the list of the 10 highest-paid players in football in 2023, with Sportico claiming Messi currently earns $110 million (R2 billion) a season in France.

The list also includes former Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta, Real Madrid's out-of-favour playmaker Eden Hazard and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah.

Here are the 10 highest-paid players in the world, as per Sportico
