Neymar and Brazil booked their place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in the early hours of this morning, while Cristiano Ronaldo shared a beautiful moment with a young pitch invader following Portugal's 0-0 draw with the Republic of Ireland.

Brazil 1-0 Colombia

Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar was arguably fortunate to escape the Selecao's 1-0 win over Colombia without being given his marching orders after he angrily bumped chests with the match referee following an incident during the clash.

Brazil, however, secured their spot at the World Cup in Qatar next year through a 72nd minute strike from Olympique Lyon attacking midfielder Lucas Paqueta, with Tite's side having now won 11 of their 12 matches so far and drawn the other.

Their triumph this morning has seen the South American giants reach 34 points, with Lionel Mess's Argentina currently second on the CONMEBOL qualifying table with 25 points. The 2021 Copa America champions will take on Uruguay in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Other CONMEBOL results:

Paraguay 0-1 Chile

Peru 3-0 Bolivia

Portugal 0-0 Ireland

Ronaldo's Portugal failed to capitalise on their chances against the Irish on Thursday evening, despite both the 36-year-old captain and his Manchester United colleague Bruno Fernandes starting the match.

The result will have left manager Fernando Santos frustrated, although A Selecao are still at the top of their qualifying group, albeit on goal difference. Portugal are currently on 17 points after five wins in seven appearances, with Serbia having also claimed five victories in the same amount of games.

Report: Pogba Makes Shock Ronaldo Demand

There was a touching moment after the final whistle had gone, however, when a young fan entered the pitch and made her way over to Ronaldo, who gave the girl his match shirt and held her before security intervened.
