It was a frustrating evening for the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, who was unable to perform to his highest level after the stadium announcer's shouting of his name before the encounter was greeted by jeers and boos by sections of PSG's own fans.
The hostile reception for the 35-year-old comes amid rumours suggesting he could be seeking to leave the club when his contract ends in June, with some supporters underwhelmed by his impact since arriving as a free agent in 2021.
PSG's early exit from the UEFA Champions League has also left many disappointed, and Messi seems to be player who has had to bear the brunt of the scathing criticism since.
Last Thursday, the former Barcelona captain reportedly missed a training session due to a disagreement with head coach Christophe Galtier, although it has been claimed he might have been nursing an injury.
It remains to be seen whether or not Messi will extend his stay at the club beyond the current campaign, but his deteriorating relationship with Les Parisiens supporters could influence his decision when the time comes to make a call on his future.
