The France captain will be out of contract with Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season as things stand.
The 24-year-old told the French club's hierarchy during the off-season that he had no intention of exercising the option of an extra year in his current deal, and it appears his stance has not changed as we approach the mid-season window.
As of 1 January 2024, the pacey forward will be free to negotiate a pre-contract with any club of his choosing.
Real Madrid have been long-time suitors of the attacker, but the record European champions have collided with stumbling blocks every time they have tried to sign the forward.
Los Blancos are still believed to be in the hunt for Mbappe, but they will not be the only European juggernauts in the race to sign the Bondy native as the Reds have also been strongly linked with an approach for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner in recent weeks.
According to FootballTransfers.com, however, the Merseyside outfit will only seriously push to land the ex-AS Monaco man's signature if they sell Mohamed Salah to a Saudi Pro League.
The publication claims that the Egyptian has not yet expressed a desire to leave Anfield, but after Al Ittihad's attempts to sign the three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner in the previous transfer window for a fee that was close to breaking the world record transfer, it is believed they will return with an improved offer for the prolific winger.

It is further claimed that if the 31-year-old does end up accepting a move to the Middle East, then Liverpool will use the funds to try fund the acquisition of Mbappe.
