Juventus Boss Strips Cristiano Ronaldo Of Some Free-Kick Duties

Juventus Boss Strips Cristiano Ronaldo Of Some Free-Kick Duties

After Cristiano Ronaldo joined Juventus, he was initially the sole free-kick taker for the Serie A giants, but coach Massimiliano Allegri has now explained why he has stripped the superstar of some of that responsibility.

Ronaldo has scored seven goals in 11 Serie A games so far, helping his side to their best-ever start to a league campaign.

Juventus have picked up 10 wins and one draw in 2018/19 thus far, which is the joint-best start to a Serie A campaign, equalling the records held by Napoli (2017/18) and AS Roma (2013/14).

However, Allegri has decided to make a change to his team's free-kick duties, with Ronaldo now only to take shots from further out.

"Ronaldo is a smart guy, he knows Miralem Pjanic and Paulo Dybala are excellent free-kick takers and they are going to take those close to the area," Allegri said, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.

"When there are free-kicks from far away, Ronaldo can kick them but we've decided that Dybala and Pjanic will take the set-pieces close to the area."

According to the English publication, Ronaldo has scored just three free-kick goals for Real Madrid in the past three seasons, while Dybala and Pjanic have scored 16 between them over the same period.
