Ronaldo had scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for United before joining Real Madrid for €94 million (R1.55 billion) – a world record fee at the time. Similar to Los Blancos this season, United opted against replacing the skillful winger with a new superstar signing.
The five players, who have since worn the No.7 shirt at Old Trafford, have just scored 13 Premier League goals between them, according to Transfermarkt.
Michael Owen was the first to follow Ronaldo as United's No.7. However, the striker had already reached the fall of his career when he joined the club on a free deal in 2009. He stayed for three seasons and scored five goals in 31 Premier League games.
Antonio Valencia took the No.7 jersey in 2012/13, but gave it away after just one campaign, which saw him only score once in 30 league games.
Many thought Angel Di Maria could finally shine in Ronaldo's old number when he joined for a British transfer record of €75 million (R1.24 billion) in 2014 from Real Madrid. However, the Argentine, too, failed to impress and left the club after netting just three goals in 27 Premier League appearances.
Next up was Memphis Depay, but the talented Dutchman was also not able to make the No.7 shirt his own. He, too, has already left the Red Devils after scoring just two goals in 33 EPL games in 2015/16 and the first half of the 2016/17 campaign.

United kept on trying to fill the gap left by Ronaldo with Alexis Sanchez, who famously became the league's highest-paid player when he joined from Arsenal in January. However, the Chilean looks a shadow of his former self and has only scored three Premier League goals in 19 appearances so far.
