The Portuguese has apparently netted £76 million in basic gross salary (before deductions), bonus payments and advertising revenue.

His longstanding rival Lionel Messi follows, with £66.4 million, in second place, ahead of his teammate Neymar with £48.1 million.

The trio earned the highest among the top three earners ever recorded by France Football, totaling £190.5 million.

Gareth Bale (£35.6 million) and Ezequiel Lavezzi (£24.8 million) complete the top five, while Oscar follows, with £22.1 million, in sixth spot.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic reportedly pocketed £21.7 million, followed by Thomas Muller, Toni Kroos and Andres Iniesta, all with £20.4 million respectively.

Hulk (£19.5 million) appears ahead of Carlos Tevez, who is widely regarded as the highest paid player in the game, but his relatively low position in the ranking could be explained by the fact that he only moved to China in January.

With £19.1 million, Sergio Ramos, Paul Pogba and Robert Lewandowski join Tevez's reported 2016/17 earnings.

Manuel Neuer (£18.4 million), Wayne Rooney (£17.1 million), Luis Suarez (£16.7 million), and Jerome Boateng as well as Sergio Aguero (both £16.5 million) complete the 20 best earners in football, according to France Football.

Note: The French publication did not explain further how they calculated the overall player incomes (gross salary plus bonuses and endorsements) for 2016/17, with the leagues still ongoing and performance-based bonus payments still to be paid out.
