According to Marca, the 29-year-old is not happy with the Catalan giants' latest contract offer after allegedly falling behind Neymar on the club's wage bill.
Although Messi reportedly still has the highest basic salary, Neymar's overall package has allegedly put him at least on Messi's level.
Reports this week suggested Messi is currently not keen on extending his current deal, which expires on 30 June 2017, but president Josip Maria Bartomeu believes he will stay.
"We are convinced that Messi will finish his career at Barelona," he said at the unveiling of Barca's new shirt sponsor, as quoted by Marca.
"He is the player that has led us to success all these years."
