The Frenchman found himself starting on the sidelines for the second match in a row, with Scott McTominay and Fred taking up position behind Bruno Fernandes in United's midfield for their 2020/21 UCL opener.
The defensive duo put in a solid shift in the first half, with Solskjaer including five defenders in his starting XI to frustrate last season's Champions League runners-up.
Fernandes put the Red Devils ahead from the spot before an own goal from Anthony Martial levelled the scoreline.
Pogba was introduced in the second half to seemingly help United regain control of the match, and a late winner was provided by Marcus Rashford, who arrowed a shot into the bottom corner from just outside the box.
Explaining his decision to start Fred and McTominay ahead of Pogba, the Metro quoted Solskjaer as saying: "They're in good form now, they're good players and they played really well against Newcastle (United in their Premier league fixture this past Saturday). They laid the foundations for the win in that game, and I think they laid the foundation today as well."

The United boss did not ignore the impact that Pogba had, though, adding: "Maybe at 1-1 in the middle of the second half we started to be more confident, played (more football). I think Paul Pogba came on and did really well for us and we created chances."
