Man Utd 'Make Breakthrough' In Kane Pursuit

Man Utd 'Make Breakthrough' In Kane Pursuit

Manchester United could sign Harry Kane at the end of the season.

With Manchester United keen to sign a top-quality striker, the Red Devils have reportedly made a breakthrough in their pursuit of England captain Harry Kane.

United chiefs are said to be confident of making Kane their marquee signing in the next window should Tottenham Hotspur fail to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League.

The 29-year-old's current valuation is rumoured to be north of £100 million (R2.1 billion), but according to The Sun, the record Premier League champions believe the Lilywhites would be willing to drop the price for their talisman if they fail to qualify for Europe's premier club competition.

The Mancunians have also reportedly contacted the London-born striker's representatives through a third party, and received a positive response regarding a mooted move.

Kane's contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is set to expire at the end of next season, and it seems the club's hierarchy fear they could lose the star for nothing.

The Spurs academy product has previously admitted that no contract talks have taken place, increasing the speculation around his future in north London, but it is thought those will happen closer to the end of the season.

Antonio Conte's men are currently in fourth position in the Premier League, but with only 12 games left to play for many teams in this campaign, his side will be facing pressure from the likes of Liverpool and Newcastle United for that final UEFA Champions League spot.

They are also still in this season's UCL, but are not favoured to go all the way to competition glory as they are currently a goal down in their round of 16 tie against AC Milan.

Having let Cristiano Ronaldo go at the beginning of the year, United are yet to find an adequate replacement for their top goalscorer from last season, with Wout Weghorst only brought in as a stop-gap until the end of the season.
