According to Marca, Atletico Madrid are looking to make in-roads into the potential acquisition of Greenwood, and are said to have opened talks with the Red Devils over a possible transfer.

The Bradford native recently put on a dazzling performance at the Civitas Metropolitano, which further reinforced the chiefs in the Spanish capital that he is the right man to bring in given his immense talent at only 22 years old.

With the versatile attacker on loan at Getafe, he helped the Deep Blue Ones end Atletico's 18-match winning streak at home in the league when they drew 3-3 with them in their last match before the Spanish top flight's mid-season break, with the England international's display said to have led Los Rojiblancos sporting director Andrea Berta to push for the acquisition of the attacker.

With it being unlikely the United academy graduate will return to Old Trafford permanently, a number of the Spain's top clubs are believed to be circling the forward, with the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Valencia also said to be keeping close tabs on the player, but Los Rojiblancos now seem to be stealing a march on their rivals.

Getafe, while perhaps not as big as the aforementioned sides, are also believed to be interested in keeping Greenwood permanently as they would reportedly get a cut-price in the deal, and also reportedly have a 25% stake in any transfer involving the attacker to another team, presumably because they took a risk on a player who had not played for over a year and a half after he was acquitted of charges relating to attempted rape, assault and coercive and controlling behaviour.
