Paris Saint-Germain began the season with silverware after rallying from behind to defeat Rennes in the French Super Cup on Saturday.

New signings Ander Herrera and Pablo Sarabia were named in the PSG starting line up, while Neymar missed out through a suspension carried over from last season.   It was the French Cup champions who made the perfect start when Adrien Hunou broke the deadlock after 13 minutes after turning home a cross from Benjamin Bourigeaud.   PSG went close to drawing level on 31 minutes as defender Thilo Kehrer sent a header over the crossbar from close range as Thomas Tuchel's charges upped the tempo in search of an equaliser.   Chances continued to fall for the Ligue 1 champions as Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani squandered golden opportunities before the halftime break.   After a slow start to the second half, PSG eventually levelled matters just before the hour mark as Sarabia sent a first-time pass to Mbappe, who fired home from close range.   Angel di Maria was introduced soon after and his impact proved to be a stroke of genius by Tuchel, as the Argentine gave PSG the lead in the 73rd minute with a neat free-kick into the far corner.   In an attempt to protect the lead, Tuchel threw on the experienced Thiago Silva for the final eight minutes as Rennes pushed for an equaliser.   Nevertheless, Rennes were unable to claw themselves back in to the side as PSG held on to claim the Super Cup.
