Portugal Star Recieves Six-Month Ban For Pushing Referee

With two Bidvest Wits players receiving eight-game bans for shoving the referee, a Portugal star in France's Ligue 1 has now been banned for six months for the same offence.

Cape Town's City Mpho Makola was initially handed a four-month ban for shoving a match official last year but his ban was reduced to four matches.

On Friday, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) announced that AS Monaco attacker Gelson Martins received a sixth month ban for violent conduct against a referee during a Ligue 1 clash against Nimes.

The Portugal international was in the match for pushing referee Mikael Lesage and then he proceeded to shove the official after being shown the red card.

'After examining the file and hearing the player, the commission has decided to sanction Gelson Martins with a closed six-month ban,' the statement by the LFP read, as per Daily Mail.

Wits players Ricardo Goss and Sameehg Doutie recently received eight-game bans for showing a referee during their 2-0 loss to Cape Town City last month.
