Paris Saint-Germain threw away a two-goal lead in a surprise 3-2 defeat to AS Monaco in Ligue 1 action on Friday night.

Kylian Mbappe returned to the line-up alongside Moise Kean and Angel di Maria, while Neymar was only named on the bench after returning from injury.

Monaco had the first real opening of the half when Kevin Volland lined-up a free-kick from distance, but the striker saw his effort palmed away by Keylor Navas.

PSG got the opener with their first real opening as Di Maria managed to slip in Mbappe who rounded Vito Mannone before slotting into top the corner on 25 minutes.

Ten minutes later, the visitors were awarded a penalty after Youssouf Fofana was penalised for bringing down Rafinha. Mbappe stepped up and dispatched the spot-kick to complete his brace.

Monaco had to wait until the 52nd minute to reduce the deficit Abdou Diallo's tackle on Gelson Martins saw the ball fall kindly for Volland, who made no mistake from close range.

The home side got back on level terms after 65 minutes as Cesc Fabregas turned provider to play in Volland for his second goal on the night with a composed finish.

The game turned on its head with six minutes left as Monaco were awarded a penalty when Volland was brought down by Diallo, who was sent off by the advice of the Video Assistant Referee.

Even with Volland on two goals, Fabregas took responsibility and slotted his spot-kick into the top corner to secure victory for Monaco, who move four points behind leaders PSG.
