Ligue 1 match report Lille v Paris Saint-Germain 21 August 2022

Kylian Mbappe bagged a hat-trick, while Neymar and Lionel Messi were also on target as Paris Saint-Germain thrashed LOSC Lille 7-1 in Ligue 1 action on Saturday night.

Result: Lille 1-7 Paris Saint-Germain

Date: 21 August 2022

Venue: Stade Pierre-Mauroy

With PSG unchanged for the second week running, it took just eight seconds for the Parisians to get ahead after Messi's dink over the Lille defence found Mbappe, who raced through on goal and lobbed goalkeeper Leo Jardim for the opener.

The visitors were irresistible going forward and Messi doubled the lead just before the half-hour mark with a right-footed strike in the box after an inch-perfect cross by Nuno Mendes.

Galtier's charges remained on the front foot and Achraf Hakimi made it 3-0 six minutes before the halftime break with a great strike from a tight angle in the box after a return pass from Neymar.

Neymar put the game beyond doubt for PSG on the stroke of halftime as he added a fourth goal with a composed finish at the near post after a deflected through ball by Messi.

Things got worse for Lille early in the second stanza as Neymar grabbed his second with a routine finish in the box after Lille failed to clear a long ball in the box.

Jonathan Bamba got a consolation goal for Paulo Fonseca's troops just after that with a close-range strike from a rebound after goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma could only parry his initial shot.

However, Mbappe clinched his second and PSG's sixth goal on 66 minutes with a thumping strike in the box after a through ball by Neymar.

The Parisians took their foot off the gas in the closing stages as they mainly retained possession, while Galtier rested some legs in defence with a double change as Sergio Ramos and Hakimi made way for Danilo and Nordi Mukiele.

PSG still had time inflict more pain to Lille, as Mbappe collected another pass from Neymar before firing home to complete his first hat-trick of the season.
