The French National Court has officially blocked the relegation of Bongani Zungu's Amiens in a surprising twist in Ligue 1.

Amiens and Toulouse were relegated from Ligue 1 after sitting in the last two spots when the 2019/20 French top-flight campaign was cancelled in April.

However, the decision was appealed by various clubs, and the court has now blocked the relegation of the two sides, according to RMC and beIN SPORTS.

"The board of directors of the League could not legally be founded, to decide to relegate the last two in the Ligue 1 ranking, on the fact that the current agreement with the French Football Federation (FFF) provides for a limit of twenty clubs, while this agreement ends on June 30 and 'a new agreement must be signed," the statement read, as per RMC.

Amiens confirmed the news on their twitter channel, tweeting they will be in Ligue 1 in 2020/21.

However, the reports state the French Football Association will have the final say on the matter, with Amiens and Toulouse potentially being allowed to stay in Ligue 1, which could be extended to 22 teams for the 2020/21 season.

The LFP, though, could also still rule to stick their original decision and relegate Amiens and Toulouse.

However, the court also stated that the 2019/20 campaign will not restart, and all other positions on the log will be deemed final.
