The Catalan giants picked up an important away win over Los Rojiblancos at the Metropolitano Stadium, with Ousmane Dembele's strike in the 22nd minute proving to be the match-winning goal.
Xavi, who saw his side pull three points clear of rivals Real Madrid as a result, believes the triumph in the Spanish capital on Sunday night shows Barcelona can pick up victories at challenging away grounds, proving they are among the favourites to win LaLiga.
"It's a win, but it's not just three points," he said, according to The National News.
"It gives us morale and confidence for what's left of the league.
"We are capable of winning at a place as tough as this, suffering, being a family.
"We knew how to suffer and we take three golden points. It's a real statement that we are candidates to win this league."
The Blaugrana have claimed 13 wins out of 16 Spanish top-flight matches so far this season, losing just a single match and conceding just six goals.
