It is believed that Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez is bitterly disappointed with Ousmane Dembele, who has reportedly fallen out with the club over contract talks and could now leave this month.
According to Spanish outlet AS, the 24-year-old is edging closer to an exit from the Catalan side after he was unable to reach an agreement over a new deal.
Dembele's current contract with the Blaugrana expires at the end of the season, meaning he is now legally allowed to listen to offers from other clubs and leave as a free agent in July.
Xavi's apparent disappointment comes after the Frenchman reportedly told him it was a priority of his to sign an extension in Spain, although his refusal to budge on his wage demands have left it unlikely that he will renew.
It is further suggested that Barcelona have withdrawn their latest contract offer for the winger and have contacted Dembele to discuss a way forward.
It could be in the club's best interests to sell the ex-Borussia Dortmund winger in this transfer window to ensure that they recoup a transfer fee and avoid losing him for free later this year.
Xavi is said to feel let down by Dembele's actions as he feels the talented attacker's agent has shown himself to be more interested in financial gain than in the sporting project Barcelona offers.
Following the forward's arrival from Germany in 2017, he has made 129 appearances for Barca and contributed to 54 goals across all competitions.
However, much of his time in Spain has been plagued by injury and disciplinary issues, with Dembele having missed a staggering 102 games to date while on Barca's books.
