The Catalan giants have pulled off a remarkable window, with Robert Lewandowski, Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde and Raphinha having been brought in by way of "economic levers" being activated.
While there is plenty to be excited about in terms of the football project at the Camp Nou, it has been frustrating trying to ship unwanted players out of the club, despite 11 players having already left the team for the 2022/23 season.
According to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, Xavi and the board have made attempts to get rid of Frenkie de Jong, Sergino Dest and Martin Braithwaite in recent months, but they have refused to leave.
In De Jong's case, president Joan Laporta has pushed for the Dutchman to be sold and even went as far as trying to persuade him to accept an offer from Manchester United. The midfielder, however, has refused to negotiate with the Red Devils and with Barcelona over a pay cut.
A slashing in wages for the 25-year-old, it is believed, would have helped the Blaugrana register their new signings earlier, with Kounde still waiting to be added to the official squad roster after his arrival earlier this month.
