It seems the Catalan club have set a precedent for Spanish clubs with regards to finding ways to resolve financial issues.

According to Goal, Atletico Madrid are now following in the footsteps of the Blaugrana as far as asking their star players to take massive salary reductions.

Los Rojiblancos have reportedly made contact with Thomas Lemar, Jan Oblak, Koke, Antoine Griezmann and Joao Felix in order to explain the need for their wages to be reduced.

The same report suggests that Oblak, who is the highest-paid player in the team, has already agreed to a salary decrease and to have some of his earnings deferred in a deal that will see him extend his stay at the Wanda Metropolitano up until 2028.

Frenchman Lemar is also said to have agreed to sign a new contract with the 2020/21 LaLiga champions, one that will see him play in the Spanish capital for the next four years and also take a 40% salary reduction.

While Griezmann, Koke and Felix are yet to extend their stays like the aforementioned players have, it is believed within the club that they will follow suit.
