Punishment Confirmed For Fans Who Racially Abused Vinicius Junior

The punishment for the seven men who were arrested for racially abusing Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior this season has been announced by Spanish authorities.

The Brazil winger has been targeted with vile discrimination throughout the course of the 2022/23 campaign, with Real having filed formal complaints at 10 of the 19 away grounds they played at in LaLiga.

A spotlight was shone on the racism he has experienced in Spain last month following a 1-1 draw at Valencia when the 22-year-old took to social media to bring attention to the way he has been treated.

This led to a social media spat between Vinicius and LaLiga president Javier Tebas, who later apologised, claiming his intention was not to attack the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League winner.

Since then, Spanish officials have taken action against perpetrators found guilty of racially abusing the ex-Flamengo starlet, fining four men €60 000 (R1.2 million) each for displaying an effigy of the Selecao international near Real's training ground earlier this season.

Three more men were handed fines of €5 000 (R102 000) and banned from stadiums for a year after making racist gestures towards Vinicius during Real's away draw with Valencia in May, as reported by Goal.

While what he has been subjected to this season has been unnerving, the forward enjoyed yet another stellar campaign with the Spanish giants, contributing to an impressive 44 goals in 55 appearances across all platforms.
